Last night Buenos Aires’ label ZZK stopped through Chicago on their North American tour. Musically speaking, it was both an event I had been anticipating and one that did not disappoint, offering an eclectic mix of Cumbia sounds by way of DJ sets from producers El Remolon, Chancha Via Circuito and El G, and an inspired rhythmic live performance from trio Tremor.

It was a rare chance get familiar with the label in a personal, intimate setting as the music led us on a tour of what nightlife sounds, and feels like, in a locale far from home. “Estilo Acapulco” aptly portrays the spirit of ZZK and summarizes the evening’s aural experience.
