Strange Sounds Vol. II: HardMix – Summerfun
SIS EXCLUSIVE! posted by Veronica Murtagh at 1:00 pm
For the second edition of our monthly Strange Sounds mixtape series, SiS editor and Cream Team blogger, Veronica Murtagh, was tasked with choosing an artist to put together a mix. Each month, a different member of the Strangers In Stereo collective will take the reins and choose a band, DJ or producer to create a mix. Check back August 1st to see who’s next!
Below, Veronica and Noah weigh in on the mix.

I’ve been discovering a lot of great, new artists lately via twitter. Noah followed me awhile back and I was immediately taken by his delicate touch, weaving together organic electronic sounds and classic samples under the moniker Hard Mix. When I approached him to represent Cream Team in the Strange Sounds mix series, he said he’d only put together a very few mixes and that made me even more excited. His Summerfun mix is a smart collection of historically placed tracks that not only represent the nostalgic feelings of summertime, but give insight into the source material from which he finds inspiration and samples in his own production work. He even made a new original track titled “Memories” just for this mix!
Hard Mix
I wanted to put together a mix that had a very upbeat, catchy summer feel, that’s why I called it Summerfun. This is the kind of stuff I roll down my windows and blast. Most of these artists are pretty well known but I got a few songs from an ’80s Italo Hits CD (yeah, it’s just as amazing as it sounds). I picked out these songs because they’re just awesome, not to mention the cool bass grooves/beats.
I didn’t mean for this to happen, but I think every song has to do with someone breaking up with another person, or love in general. It’s all very relevant for me. I wanted to add this new song of mine, “Memories”, into the mix because I thought it fit well. I made the song in about two days. Hopefully it doesn’t sound that way. I wanted the track to have a new age/vintage/dance feel (is that even possible?). The main lyrics of the song are, “All you’re left are memories.”; I like that for some reason. This song will be on my full-length which will be out later this year via a few labels. Enjoy!

this is so legit!!!
Whitney Houston and Toto are so nostalgic, and the fact that this is a “mix tape” (I was confused when I only got one song at first) is just awesome.
